Our documentary film, Breadmakers (Director Yasmin Fedda), is to be shown at the 2019 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The screening is part of the Scottish Documentary Institute’s Bridging the Gap scheme which is celebrating its 15th Birthday. Breadmakers will be shown along with eight hand-picked short documentaries.

Breadmakers (2007) is a short documentary film directed by Yasmin Fedda and produced by Jim Hickey and Robin Mitchell. This is a film about a unique Edinburgh bakery, where a community of workers with learning disabilities make a variety of organic breads for daily delivery to shops and cafes in the city. The Garvald Bakery is part of a centre inspired by the ideas of Rudolf Steiner where the workers realise their potential for self-discovery and creativity in a social environment.

Breadmakers has been screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide and has won a number of awards including the Short Scottish Documentary Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (2007), the Best Short Documentary prize at the Athens International Documentary Festival on Disability (2008) and the Black Pearl for Best Documentary Short Film at the Middle East International Film Festival (2008). The screening will take place in Edinburgh at Filmhouse 3 on Thursday 20th June at 8.10pm.

In March 2016, as part of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), Breadmakers (Director: Yasmin Fedda) will be screened in Slovenia.

The screening, to raise awareness and to fight stereotypes, will take place in Ljubljana as part of a short films presentation by The Kraken Short Film Society.

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), observed on 21st March every year, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

In advance of World Mental Health Day (2015) on Saturday 10th October, Breadmakers will be screened at The National Film Archive of India (NFAI).

A TALE OF TWO SYRIAS (Director: Yasmin Fedda) is to be screened on the 10th and 11th April 2015 as part of Stand For Syria Arts Festival in Scotland.

The Stand For Syria Arts Festival is organised by a group of Syrian university students and scholars living in Scotland who have come together to raise awareness across Scotland on the human aspect of the Syrian conflict as well as on the Syrian civil society and its non-violence struggle.

Realising the high cost of lost educational opportunities to Syrians due to violence and its impact on reconstituting peace in Syria, they also seek to raise funds for the education of Syrians in their countries of refuge.

A TALE OF TWO SYRIAS will be screened at the University of Edinburgh, 50 George Square, Edinburgh on Friday 10th April 2015 at 4pm and at the University of St. Andrews, St Salvator's Quad on Saturday 11th April at 4.30pm.

A Tale of Two Syrias (Director Yasmin Fedda) was screened recently at SOAS, University of London in the department of Anthropology and Sociology. Yasmin was on hand to answer questions at the end of the screening.

SOAS, University of London is the only Higher Education institution in Europe specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. SOAS is a remarkable institution. Uniquely combining language scholarship, disciplinary expertise and regional focus, it has the largest concentration in Europe of academic staff concerned with Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

A Tale of Two Syrias offers a unique perspective on what the dream of freedom means to two very different people in the face of a brutal regime, offering a vital snapshot of life in the year before Syria’s uprising.

A Tale of Two Syrias (Dir. Yasmin Fedda) is to be screened at The Chester Beattie Library in Dublin.

The Chester Beatty Library is a public charitable trust established under the will of the late Sir Alfred Chester Beatty, which was granted probate in 1969. The Library is in the ownership of a Board of Trustees who hold it for the use and benefit of the public.

The role of the Library is to protect, preserve and make available to the public in the form of exhibitions, popular publications, lectures and other events the heritage enshrined in the collections of the late Chester Beatty and to provide the world of scholarship access to the internationally important resource.

A Tale of Two Syrias will be screened on Saturday 29th March 2014 at 2pm.

A Tale of Two Syrias (Dir. Yasmin Fedda) is to screen in Los Angeles in March.

The Center for Visual Anthropology at the University of Southern California (USC) will host a selection of films chosen from the 13th RAI INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM which took place in Edinburgh last June.

The 13th RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film was jointly hosted in June 2013 by the National Museums Scotland and STAR, the Consortium of Anthropology Departments of the Universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and St. Andrews.

The screening of A Tale of Two Syrias in Los Angeles will take place at the Seeley G. Mudd Hall on USC campus on Saturday 8th March at 10.30am.

A Tale of Two Syrias (Dir. Yasmin Fedda) is to be screened at Oxford University on 5th February.

The screening will be hosted by Oxford Solidarity for Syria in association with The Global South Film Society.

Oxford Solidarity for Syria is a group of students and researchers interested in understanding and supporting the revolt of the Syrian people and spreading the Syrian cause widely.

The Global South Film Society is a politically engaged independent collective where you can watch and discuss films from around the globe, with active participation, good company and freedom.

The screening takes place at St Antony's College (Nissan Lecture Theatre) on Wednesday 5th February at 8pm. Yasmin will be there to answer any questions.

A Tale of Two Syrias (Dir. Yasmin Fedda) is to be screened at Alwan For the Arts in New York on Wednesday March 19th 2014 at 7pm.

Since 1998, Alwan has played a leading role in promoting the diverse cultures of the Middle East in New York and the tri-state metropolitan area. Alwan’s inaugural activities entailed screening evocative films in academic settings. These screenings evolved into a film festival that soon became the largest event of its kind outside of the Middle East. Since its founding, Alwan has continually expanded its programming, which now includes concerts, dance performances, academic book talks, poetry readings, panel discussions, theatrical performances, visual arts exhibits, as well as educational offerings in language, dance, and music. Alwan has grown into a cultural and aesthetic hub, curating up to 100 events each year.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Director, Yasmin Fedda.
